How big was it when locker rooms began to admit female reporters? How much did players care?

It wasn’t a big deal for the players, but I remember it being a big deal for Coach Noll. I remember walking into the locker room after the game on the first day women reporters were allowed into the locker room after the game. All of the players were standing in front of their lockers and they were wearing full-length white bathrobes. It was comical looking. The shock factor wore off quickly and women reporters quickly assimilated themselves into the postgame scene.

Vic, Marcus Mariota hasn’t signed his rookie deal yet because it contains a clause that forbids him from surfing, something he loves to do. What is the one thing a potential employer could never get you to give up?

Watching football on TV. I just learned something about myself. I’m terribly boring.

Joe from Bloomington, IN

“My point is we’re perseverating on the Seahawks, and it’s not healthy.” Since you claim to not be a fan, Vic, how do you know what’s healthy for us? In this situation, beating the Seahawks is far more important than beating the Bears, because it gives the Packers a huge edge in terms of homefield advantage for the playoffs. Just ask Aaron Rodgers the next chance you get.

You’re clairvoyant? You’d have to be clairvoyant to know a win over the Seahawks would be worth more in a homefield tiebreaker than a win over the Bears would be. The first two division title tiebreakers involve results of division games, and you can’t win the homefield tiebreaker if you don’t win the division title.

When did you realize you were more cut out for the press box than the field?

When I found out my parents were non-athletes.

Dan from Kenosha, WI

Lombardi’s worst call was consistently refusing colonoscopies. He and his family paid the price in pain.

So did I, for the same reason. Be smart; drink the stuff.

Steve from Racine, WI

Is there any rule, piece of equipment or penalty you’d like to see removed from the game?

I’d like to see the pass-interference rule changed so that offensive pass interference in the end zone would be the defense’s ball on the 20-yard line going out. The rule as it stands is tilted unfairly toward the offense.

Will from Mt. Laurel, NJ

Do you have anything to say to the fans who constantly devalue your opinion because you are not a true Packers fan, then turn around and ridicule you for saying the game to win next year is the Bears?

Thank you for reading.

Don from Roscoe, IL

Vic, no question. Just wanted to thank you for acknowledging Gallaudet. It’s a rough neighborhood, but you wouldn’t believe how proud the people were of their hometown team. People would hop the fence on West Virginia Ave. to watch games. But they don’t use the drum anymore.

The drum they used for the snap count touched me as much as anything about football has ever touched me. I’ve never seen a team come off the ball as it did to that drum. It gave new meaning to silent count.

Gunars from Ames, IA

You have mentioned the John Clayton Steelers story a few times now. Was he blacklisted for a while after that? It seems like a situation like that could be the death knell for a young reporter.

America won’t tolerate silencing the truth. As we prepare to celebrate our freedom, the right to free speech continues to be the greatest of our freedoms.

Are there any Hall of Fame coaches that didn’t have the opportunity to coach “The Man”?

Did Joe Gibbs have “The Man”?

Andrew from Grayslake, IL

Vic, I’m 12 years old and I love your column and read it every day. My question to you is on game day at Lambeau, what is your go-to gameday snack or thing to eat?

I’m a popcorn junkie. It’s how I found out I had colon cancer. I ate too much popcorn covering a Redskins-Jaguars game.

Grant from Wauwatosa, WI

Vic, John Facenda said it best in the Lombardi NFL Films video: “His game plan contained a minimum of simple plays, executed with a maximum of effort.” It’s all about execution.

The game reveres Lombardi. So why is it moving so decidedly away from his virtues? I think we need to channel the Lombardi inside all of us. I think the game needs to become more Lombardi-like.

Dan from Milwaukee, WI

Say you’re deciding your 53rd roster spot and had to decide between two players. One is a more experienced player with a lower ceiling who would help you more this year. The other is an inexperienced player with a higher ceiling, but wouldn’t contribute much this year. How do you decide who to keep?

Somehow, some way, the young player must be kept. It’s a young man’s game.

Kyle from Vera Cruz, Vera Cruz

I hope your romance novel is based on the football field. Do you have an outline yet?

I have never used an outline in my life. Outlines are for writing documents. I sit down and I write. It just comes out.

Brent from Chippewa Falls, WI

Is it odd Coach McCarthy has never won coach of the year? Am I missing something or should I not care?

Coach Noll never won coach of the year, either. You should not care.

David from Monticello, GA

Vic did you know the “G” on the Georgia Bulldogs helmet was originally leased from the Packers? I find this ironic since I am from Georgia but have been a Packers fan since 1965.

There’s a town in South Carolina named Greenwood. Did you know permission to use the “G” was given to Greenwood High School by Lombardi?

Tony from Cedarburg, WI

What do you think the chances are Pittsburgh does get to host the 2023 Super Bowl, and do you like this idea?

It’s a long shot. Pittsburgh has all of the facilities needed to host the Super Bowl, but the weather is a terrible threat. We saw what weather can do to the Super Bowl in Atlanta and Dallas. I like warm-weather Super Bowls.

Jason from Pensacola, FL

Will the Brett Favre jersey ceremony finally heal the fans’ wounds caused by his departure?

I absolutely believe it will. He’s coming home forever.

HAVE A QUESTION FOR VIC?
