GREEN BAY–The Packers selected defensive back Damarious Randall in the first round of the NFL draft on Friday. Randall played safety at Arizona State, but some teams had projected him to play cornerback.
Randall, 5-11, 196, was a first team All-PAC 12 selection last season. He’s regarded to be a tough, high-effort defender and punishing tackler. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the last two years. He ran a 4.46 40 at the scouting combine.
The Packers selected safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix with the 21st overall pick last year. The Packers have a distinct need at cornerback after losing Tramon Williams and Davon House in free agency. Randall might address the need at cornerback in sub-package defense.
