GREEN BAY – Halftime of Packers games at Lambeau Field this season will feature a new piece of entertainment, and the competition should be fun to watch.
In 2015, the Packers are introducing the QB Challenge, a passing contest that will feature quarterbacks and receivers from rival Wisconsin high schools.
The first competition, slated for halftime of Saturday’s preseason game vs. Philadelphia, pits Rice Lake vs. Superior, two schools that are rivals in the Big Rivers Conference and certified as Heads Up Football programs for 2015.
Rice Lake lost to conference champ Superior last year but then advanced to the Division 3 state title game before falling to Wisconsin Lutheran to finish with a 10-4 record. The Warriors will bring QB Hunter Ashlin along with receivers Parker Buckley and Bill Brown.
Superior went undefeated in winning the Big Rivers last year and advanced to the third round of the Division 2 playoffs before losing to eventual state champion Menasha, finishing with an 11-1 mark. The Spartans will bring QB Beau Reder plus receivers Beau Girard and Mitch Anderson. Girard and Anderson combined for 61 catches, 1,195 yards and 14 receiving TDs a season ago.
The two schools will meet this season on Oct. 2, when Rice Lake will try to beat Superior for the first time since 2011.
