The Green Bay Packers have hired Matt Malaspina as a college scout. The announcement was made Friday by Packers Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Malaspina joins the Packers after spending 11 years with the San Francisco 49ers, including the last three as the director of college scouting. He joined the 49ers after serving as an area scout for the Seattle Seahawks for five years. In 1999, he worked for the Carolina Panthers, where he evaluated college players in the southeast region. Before the Panthers, Malaspina spent the previous year with National Football Scouting. In 1997-98, he was an assistant offensive coach at Jacksonville University. Malaspina began coaching in college in 1997 as an intern at his alma mater, the University of Central Florida. He played one season (1994) as a center for the Shreveport Pirates of the Canadian Football League.
