GREEN BAY – A pair of small-school state champions will go head-to-head in the QB Challenge at halftime of Sunday’s game against Dallas at Lambeau Field.

Amherst won the Division 5 state title with a perfect 14-0 record. The Falcons won the Central Wisconsin-Eight Conference and then rolled through the playoffs, scoring at least 42 points in each of five postseason games. Amherst won the D-5 title game over Spencer/Columbus Catholic by a score of 42-0.

Amherst will bring QB Garret Groshek along with receivers Harry Piotrowski and Ben Gutschow. Groshek completed 69 percent of his throws this season for nearly 2,400 yards, tossing 41 TD passes. Piotrowski and Gutschow combined for nearly 500 yards receiving and seven TDs.

St. Mary’s Springs Academy, located in Fond du Lac, won the Division 6 championship with a 12-2 mark. The Ledgers placed second in the Flyway Conference before running the table in the playoffs, winning the D-6 title game over Darlington by a score of 39-20.

St. Mary’s Springs will feature QB Blake Bauer along with receivers Ricky Stoegbauer and Mitch Waechter. Bauer threw for 1,500 yards and 12 TDs this season, with Stoegbauer and Waechter combining for 200-plus yards and a score.
